Board of Directors
Mrs. Broecher is the founder and leader of the 15-50 Dance Group that voluntarily contributes cultural programming to the local community. She is now working as an office manager at Lenzkes Clamping Tools, a German company that covers South and North Americans. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Hunan Normal University in 1984 and was an associate professor at the Euro-American College of Beijing Geely University before moving to the United States. She has been the principal for one year and a dance teacher for two years with the Blacksburg Chinese School.
Jianhe Du, PhD, PE
Dr. Du works as a senior research associate at the Virginia Tech. She served as the principal of Blacksburg Chinese School and the chair of the Parent-Teacher Organization of Chinese School. Dr. Du graduated from the University of Connecticut and has been living in the New River Valley for 13 years.
Sofia Zhang Midkiff
Mrs. Midkiff currently serves as the chair of the Montgomery County Public Schools Gifted Advisory Committee, the Haymarket Square Homeowners Association Board, and is the Secretary of the Blacksburg Chinese School Board of Directors. Sofia has worked as a business analyst contractor for the US Department of Treasury, a business consultant for IBM Global Services, an intern at Verizon Wireless, an account manager at Ericsson, and a project manager at ABB. Sofia earned the B.Sc. degree from Stockholm University and the Master of Business Administration from Emory University. Sofia is a Fulbright Scholar from Sweden. She is fluent in Chinese, English, and Swedish.
Feifei Zhu, PhD, CFA,
Dr. Zhu currently serves as the President of the Board of Director at Blacksburg Chinese School. She is an associate professor of Finance in the Davis College of Business and Economics at Radford University in Radford, Virginia. She has been teaching and conducting research on topics of international capital markets, capital structure, information asymmetry, and real estate finance. Prior joining Radford University, Dr. Zhu has served as MBA and Finance Program Chairs at Hawaii Pacific University. She is now serving as the faculty sponsor for the honor organization of Beta Alpha Psi – Nu Beta Chapter at Radford University.
Dr. Sable is the founder and CEO of VPT, Inc. He earned an S.B. degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He started his career with RCA Astro-Electronics in 1978, designing electronic circuits and systems for satellites. In 1993, he co-founded VPT and has grown VPT to be the world’s leading supplier of advanced DC-DC power converters for military, commercial aerospace, and space applications. Dr. Sable orchestrated the successful acquisition of VPT by HEICO Corporation in 2009.
In 2012, Dr. Sable accepted the position of Adjunct Professor of Practice in the Virginia Tech Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and now teaches one class per semester. He serves on the boards of several companies and assists several local entrepreneurs in business start-ups. In 2018, Dr. Sable was inducted into the Virginia Tech Academy of Engineering Excellence.
Thomas (Tom) Roberts P.E., C.F.M.
Mr. Roberts served a one year term as the Principal of the Blacksburg Chinese School and is Facilities Committee Chairman. He currently works and is a partner/owner of H2R Engineering Inc. a site development Civil Engineering design firm. He has worked as a consulting civil engineer for 34 years and a public servant as Regional Dam Safety Engineer for the State of Virginia for 17 years. Tom has served as a volunteer on many boards and committees including the Montgomery County Economic Development Authority Board for 8 years. Mr. Roberts has a BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech.
Dr. Wang is a professor in Business Information Technology at Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Tech. He received a B.E. in Industrial & Management Engineering at Tianjin University, a M.S. in Industrial Engineering at Louisiana State University, and a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems at the University of Arizona. He has been a volunteer coworker and a housegroup leader at Blacksburg Chinese Church for more than a decade. He also served as a founding coach of a local First Lego League robotics team, Brickadon, who won the Blacksburg Regional FLL Tournament and advanced to the State Championship three times.
