Who we are

Founded in 1979, Blacksburg Chinese School (BCS) is an Independent non-profit education institute. The goal of BCS is to offer practical Chinese language learning materials, effective teaching methods, rich experience in Chinese culture and history. We believe that learners learn best when they are motivated, when the anxiety level is low and when they have fun. Together with other organizations, we hope to build a diverse and vibrant cultural environment for New River Valley.

• BCS has a very experienced and passionate teaching team who adopts well-established cutting-edge language teaching methods to help heritage and non-heritage learners develop Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

• BCS has obtained the qualification to serve as a test center for the HSK Exam, an international standardized exam that tests and rates Chinese language proficiency. BCS is the only HSK test center for southwest Virginia.

• BCS offers a variety of enrichment programs such as calligraphy, Kong Fu, Yoyo, and Chinese traditional dancing. Working with local scholars, BCS offers a guest speaker series on education, language learning, and a variety of STEM topics. BCS also offers sponsorship to contests on math and computer science.
