Class Dates: from Feb 17 to April 21, 2017
Class Schedule: 1.5 hr/class; 10 classes;Friday 5:30-7pm @ Blacksburg Library
Class Fee: (15 hours) $120 for BCS members and $150 for non-members
Costume/Accessories fee: around $20 (including clothes and accessories)

The First MANDATORY meeting (FREE TRIAL) for this class is Feb17th FRI 5pm-7:30pm at Blacksburg Library. Highlights of BCS
Congratulations to our wonderful 2016 town parade group! It was an excellent exhibit of BCS teamwork. In our panda hats, we showed in our numbers and our diversity of ages, the strength of BCS to the town. This is one night in the year, we proudly walked through downtown and told others we are members of the Blacksburg community and we are members of Blacksburg Chinese School!
In 2017, BCS welcomes our new PTO president Mrs. Xin Zhao and thank our previous president Mrs. Jianhe Du and her team for their long-term hard work and huge support to BCS! This is what BCS is all about for the children, by the parents, and to the community!
Let us start counting down for 2017 Chinese New Year! Save the date for Radford University 2017 CNY Gala on January 28th from 3pm to 5pm, and Virginia Tech 2017 CNY Performance on February 4th at 7pm.

Join Us Tonight at 2016 Blacksburg Holiday Town Parade
1. Please arrive between 6:30pm to 7:00pm. You MUST enter from West Campus Drive. You can park at the parking garage between Prices Fork and Perry Street, and walk to the line up area. Look for the BCS "Lantern" theme float.
2. Please remember to wear your panda hat if you have one. For the families who want to purchase panda hats, please bring $5 for each before the parade. For kids sitting in the float, please bring a small stool.
3. Our group will start parade at 7PM from Perry St., to Main St. and proceed South. This year we will end the parade at China Inn. Enjoy a cup of warm soup, chicken kabobs, and other snacks at China Inn for only $3 per person.The group will be dismissed at China Inn. We strongly encourage families to plan ahead for carpool. For example, some families can park the cars in front of China Inn before the parade, and carpool to pick up the cars at the parking garage.
4. If you have some candies you want to share, please bring them to the parade. When giving out candies, to insure safety of spectators you are not allowed to throw candies. Please hand them out.
5. In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be held on Sat. Dec. 3rd at 1PM. Our meeting time will be 12:00-12:30pm. Listen to area radio station on Fri. in the event of inclement weather, or call the Recreation Cancellation Hotline at 540-558-0742 to see if the parade has been rescheduled.
It is not too late to join us.Thank you and we are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Introducing New Classes......
Folk Dance Preschool Group (For 4-6 girls) 民族舞幼儿班 *Starting from November. Please click the red button on the right side, and register before 10/20 and we will contact you soon. - Introducing NEW professional instructor Ms. MengMeng to BCS families: She is a professional Chinese folk dancer, current director of Music and Dance School at Yantai University in China, and the vice-president of Yantai City Dancers Association. This class are to introduce basic dance skills plus traditional folk dance with different styles using many props, such as fan, umbrella, or spinning scarf etc. Traditional colorful costumes from China create a blaze of color on the stage. Students will have abundant performance opportunities for special festivals or events annually, not only in Blacksburg community, but also in the NRV surround areas.

NH-Chinese Play Group - This course is designed for age 3-6 children with NO/little Chinese background. Come join us every Saturday for 60minutes to explore Chinese language and culture through games, songs, poems, traditional crafts and more! Learning Chinese is fun and simple!

NH-Happy Chinese - These courses are designed for age 5-8 non-heritage children with some Chinese/immersion program background. The goal is to prepare students enough basic listening and speaking skills, help them successfully step up to Heritage classes to start learning reading and writing characters. Come join us once or twice a week for 60/90 minutes to continue exploring Chinese language and culture.

June 4 - August 6: Traditional Chinese Stories (instruction in Chinese) Sundays 4-5pm; $100 Yanan Jiao and Betty Fan will lead students in exploring the origins of 5 major Chinese holidays and learning about the historical background of special Chinese idioms. 中国传统故事课教学目的是让孩子们（5-10岁) 通过传统故事了解中华传统文化。本期课程一共十次课，每周一次，每次课一个小时。十次课的故事主题各不同，分别为五次节庆故事（端午节，清明节，孔子诞辰，重阳节，和腊八节），加上五次成语故事（每次介绍几个成语）。课程会结合传统节庆的由来，传说，习俗，古代诗句和现实意义，什么是成语？成语的由来，故事，说明的道理等等，通过看影片，学习汉字，学习儿歌，传统手工及绘画，小游戏等各种丰富的形式让小朋友感同身受，充分体验中国传统文化的魅力！这是母语班学生在暑假复习中文及学习传统文化的好机会，强烈推荐小朋友们尽量参加！课程收费标准如下：本期十次课共$100。每次课主题都是独立的，如小朋友们因故缺课，缺课部分的学费可以credit到秋季中文课学费中。课程时间安排如下：6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/2, 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6 每周日4-5点。除已报名的小朋友外，请有兴趣的家长尽快联系亚男老师报名: sallyananj@yahoo.com（学生姓名年龄及联系方式），方便老师们提前准备课件。希望在6月4号的第一次课能见到更多小朋友！
June 6 - July 20: Fun English Reading and Writing with Sue(https://goo.gl/FcKBpM) Tue + Thu 3-4pm (no classes on July 4 and July 6); $60+ $20 registration. Ms. Sue Saffle, retired Senior Instructor of English at Virginia Tech, will be teaching a six-week class in elementary-level reading and writing in English for K-5 students. During each class session, thirty minutes will be devoted to basic reading skills followed by thirty minutes in speaking and writing skills. Ms. Saffle will employ methods to make the experience fun as well as informative and educational for her students.
June 12-15: Chinese Cultural and Language Camp (https://goo.gl/i4aKme) M-Th 9am-noon; Cost $60+$20 registration. Ms. I-Ping Fu, Radford University Chinese Profesor will lead a 4-half-day camp teaching Chinese language and culture through various hand-on activities such as arts and craft and making food. Campers will have a chance to share what they learn with parents on the last day of the camp on June 15 from noon-1pm.

Introduction of Principal Candidate Ms. Jingjing Huang - Ms. Jingjiang Huang has a M.A. in Teaching Chinese As a Foreign Language from the East China Normal University in Shanghai and a M.A. in Chinese Linguistics from the University of Arizona. She has been teaching Chinese Language and culture to learners at all ages in various settings for over 15 years. BCSwelcomes Ms. Huang to join us and further strengthen our non-heritage programs!
