Blacksburg Chinese School

October 2020

Volume 04 Issue 10

What will happen:

  • Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
  • BCS students will give their performance at the VT-ACSS 2020 Online Mid-Autumn Festival Gala on Oct 3rd at 7:00 PM.
  • The online stories will continue coming for BCS kids.

What happened during in September:

1. The fall non-heritage program of Blacksburg Chinese School, which was fully online, started in the Labor Day week.

2. On September 26, Prof. Qiang Ding, the former principal of Huadong Kangqiao International School in Kunshan, Jiangsu and Jinling Middle School in Nanjing, Jiangsu and an affiliate faculty of Nanjing Normal University, delivered a seminar titled “Create a Bright Future for Our Children” to the BCS families. After the seminar, Prof. Ding also held a discussion forum with the parents attending the seminar. In an active and open manner, all participants share thoughts and experiences on how to raise children in a bilingual environment at the intersection of Chinese and Western culture. The value of an emotionally supportive family environment for our children is especially emphasized.

3. Blacksburg Chinese School has contributed 3 exciting programs to the coming 2020 Mid-Autumn Festival Show, which is organized by Virginia Tech Association of Chinese Scholars and Students and will be broadcast at 7 pm on October 3, 2020, on YouTube and Bilibili. The 3 programs include a rap “Life in Quarantine” performed by Sophie Zhang, a song “Unstoppable” performed by Radia Lu, and a classical Chinese song “Water Melody (水调歌头•明月几时有)” performed by BCS kids.
