  • BCS's course registration opens now. Please click HERE to register classes for the next academic year.
  • Chinese Language and Culture Summer Camp is open for enrollment. Register HERE.
  • The tryout day of the BCS's Chinese Classical Dance program is on June 1st.


What happened in May:
 

1. Great thanks to everyone participating in the Year-End Talent Show. Good Job!



2. Congratulations to graduating BCS Teen Ambassadors (left to right): Brain, Whitney, and Lucy. Not pictured was Former Chinese Yoyo instructor: Ailene.



3. All of the BCS's classes finished. And the students did a great job in the exam week!

Events in June


1. The next academic year registration starts. To register the course in the 2019 - 2020 academic year, please fill this FORM.

2. Chinese Language & Culture Summer Camp starts recruiting students. To sign up the summer camp, please fill this FORM. For the enrollment and detailed information, please contact Dr. I-Ping Fu (ifu@radford.edu)




3. BCS's Children dance program recruits new students for Mid-autumn performance. And the tryout day is on June 1st. To join the program, please send email to BCS (info@blacksburgchineseschool.org). For detailed information, please read the flyer.



Current Classes

  • NH-Happy Chinese - These courses; are designed for age 5-8 non-heritage children with; some Chinese/immersion program; background. The goal is to; prepare students; enough basic listening and speaking skills, help them successfully step up to Heritage classes to start learning reading and writing characters. Come to join us once or twice a week for 60/90 minutes to continue exploring the Chinese language and culture.
  • Chinese YoYo Group - Experience Chinese culture through a cool, fun and attractive traditional Chinese martial art. Children enrolled the regularly attending. This class will have the options to perform in NRV areas. This class is for 6+ boys and girls. And the class is free to everyone.

What happened in March:
 

1. CAS(Chinese American Society) and BCS hosted two Big Little Friend events on March 2 and March 30.



2. BCS students attended Math Kangaroo on March 21.

1. BCS will present the traditional Chinese culture on the 60th Annual International Street Fair on Sunday, April 28th from 12 noon to 5:00 PM in the Squire Parking Lot at Virginia Tech.



2. GiveBigNRV will start on Wednesday, April 24th. To show your support for BCS, please click here.

Announcements:

  • The midterm exam is coming!
  • New Wushu class will start on March 2.
  • All BCS classes will have classes during VT Spring Break.

What happened in February: 


1. BCS successfully hosted the Lunar-New Year Celebration at The Virginia Tech Inn on Feb 3. And BCS students gave their performances during the celebration.



2. BCS dancing group performed beautifully on their show at the Taubman Museum on Feb 9.



3. BCS students danced amazingly on the Virginia Tech Spring Festival Gala, Feb 16.



4. Blacksburg Chinese School hosted the Lantern Festival Celebration on Feb 23th. The members of BCS had a great time. They enjoyed the games, the Lion dance show, and the Chinese character reading contest. And Thanks to BHS-NHS volunteers' help at BCS Lantern Festival.    

5. BCS students performed the traditional Chinese dance and the Lion dance on the Radford University Chinese New Year Celebration, Feb 23.

2. A new class, Wushu with Andrew, will start on Saturdays March 2 at 2:30 pm at 104 Landsdowne St.

3. Please support and donate BHS-NHS' Spring Rummage Sale on April 6. And item donations will be accepted on March 11 and 19 at BHS.

1. The Sound of China will be on Feb 2, 2019, at 7:30 pm, at Moss Art Center. Its pre-show will start at 6:45 pm and ends at 7:15 pm.


2. Banquet Entertainment will be on Feb 3, 2019, from 6:15 pm - 7:00 pm, at The Inn at Virginia Tech.



3. The show in Taubman Museum will be on Feb 9, 2019, from 12:00 - 2:00 pm.


4. The Virginia Tech Spring Festival Gala will be on Feb 16, 2019, from 7:00 - 9:00 pm, at Burruss Hall of Virginia Tech.


5. Blacksburg Chinese School Lantern Festival Celebration will be on Feb 23th, 2019 at 1:00 - 3:00 pm, at Blacksburg Community Center.



6. The Radford University Chinese New Year Celebration will be on Feb 23, 2019, at 4:00, at Covington Center.

  • Happy New Year! 
  • The Heritage Class will start on Jan 6th, 2019. And Please register for the Non-Heritage classes in this newsletter. 

What happened in December: 


1. BCS students participated in the Christmas Parade on Dec 7th, 2018.





2. Q4 BCS board meeting held on Dec 18th, 2018. New PTO was introduced to the board. The new PTO is Li Zhang. 

3. All the classes finished in December.

ICR(Ichinesereader) free trial for BCS students is extended to Nov. 15. Please try it out and give us some feedback. Survey for ICR

BCS is considering offering new classes in the coming months. Please help us by indicating your interest: Survey for new classes.

1. It is time for register for Spring semester. Click the following forms to register. 

 Spring 2019 registration for children's classes
 Spring 2019 registration for adults' classes

Students in Heritage Chinese language classes do not need to register for Spring.

2. Heritage classes will begin at Jan 6th, 2019. And non-heritage classes will start on Jan 23th. To register the class, please fill this form.

3. BCS will have more performance in January. Look forward to the future performance.

  • Blacksburg Chinese School Q4 Boarding Meeting: 2:00 - 4:00 pm, Saturday, Dec 8th, 2018 @BCS.
    Members and Parents are welcome to sit in the second half of the meeting which starts at 3:00 pm.
  • The Last Heritage Class is on Sunday, December 9, 2018.

What happened in November: 


1. BCS students participated in and gave their performances, The Flowers Valley at Dance of Nations 2018 in Virginia Tech on Nov 6, 2018.



2. Thank everyone for their support to BCS on the Giving Tuesday, November 27, 2018.



3. Hunan King joins in the BCS sponsorship program.

Anyone wants to perform please contact Sofia Midkiff (540-230-5051) as we are planning for the upcoming festivals and celebrations for school year 18-19. Singing, dancing, instruments, storytelling, martial arts, tai chi etc. 
 

Events in December

1. Christmas Parade, 6 pm, Friday, December 7th, 2018 @Blacksburg Downtown. Please sign this form to join the parade.

  • NH-Happy Chinese - These courses; are designed for age 5-8 non-heritage children with; some Chinese/immersion program; background. The goal is to; prepare students; enough basic listening and speaking skills, help them successfully step up to Heritage classes to start learning reading and writing characters. Come to join us once or twice a week for 60/90 minutes to continue exploring Chinese language and culture.
  • Chinese YoYo Group - Experience Chinese culture through a cool, fun and attractive traditional Chinese martial art. Children enrolled the regularly attending. This class will have the options to perform in NRV areas. This class is for 6+ boys and girls.
  • Chinese club @ BMS - Free enrollment for novice learners. Limited seats.

Announcements:

  • No Class on Nov 25, due to Thankings Giving Break.

What happened in October: 


1. BCS students participated in and gave their performances at the Mid-autumn Festival Party in Radford University on Oct 6, 2018.





3. 百家讲坛” 第三讲: 10/5 黄晶晶校长主讲: “趣味中国方言”。

4. BCS successfully hosted the 2018 Fall Party on Saturday, Oct 13, from 4:00 - 6:30 pm at Margaret Beeks Elementary Cafeteria, Blacksburg. And Candidate Flaccavento came and gave us a speech.

Announcements:

 
  • No Class on Oct 28, 2018.
  • Welcome new treasurer, Jane Lin, and new IT, Xuqing Wang.

What happened in September: 

 
  1. Q3 BCS board meeting held on Sep 15, 2018. New treasurer and IT contact person were introduced to the board. The new treasure is Jane Lin, and the new IT is Xuqing Wang. 

  2. BCS students participated in and gave their performance at the Mid-autumn Festival Gala in Virginia Tech on Sept 29, 2018.





  3. 百家讲坛” 第二讲: 9/7 春晓教务长主讲: “20分钟漫步中华五千年”。

  4. BCS sponsored a booth at BHS Bruin Fest on Friday, Sept 28th, from 3:30 - 7:00 pm.

中文学校“天南海北百姓讲坛”活动将于十月继续举行,日期为10月5号及10月19号。
活动地点: BCS的大教室;
时间:6点半到8点半,
活动日程:百姓讲坛(6点半开始,半小时左右结束)然后小朋友们玩儿游戏到8点半,8点半开始收拾屋子。

“百姓讲坛”需要更多志愿者,届时由各位志愿者选择自己喜欢的题目用中文与孩子交流。讲座可以是科学人文类(比如科普),历史地理类(比如您的家乡),也可以是简单的教孩子唱中文歌,演中文节目等。期待您的加盟!
